Ethiopia and Sudan Experience Diplomatic Breakdown

Addis Ababa (HN24) – The relations between Ethiopia and Sudan have sharply deteriorated due to mutual accusations of supporting each other’s domestic armed opponents and escalating military and diplomatic rows.

Today, Ethiopia has ordered six Sudanese consular officials in the border town of Assosa to leave the country within 48 hours. This decision comes amid growing tensions between Addis Ababa and Khartoum.

Sudan has recently accused Ethiopia of allowing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to use Ethiopian territory for drone attacks, which Ethiopia has denied. Meanwhile, Ethiopia accused Sudan, Egypt, and Eritrea of supporting armed opposition groups in Ethiopia.

There are growing concerns that Sudan’s civil war could spill over into Ethiopia and destabilize the whole Horn of Africa.
